People will judge you for trying to be a better you, for trying to go after your dreams, for wanting more. And often times you’ll believe someone’s half measures of identifying you correctly and loose confidence in yourself or your abilities.

If you want people to take you seriously, then know that you don’t have to be afraid to say ‘I don’t know when you don’t know.

Because when the day starts, however bad a situation you’re in, you always have another day to learn new things, to read up, to research, to form an opinion, to sharpen your skills.

So it’s better to own up and move on.

Your attitude and consistency in positive actions define who you are and what you stand for. Not your words alone.

Respect’ is seldom earned by being a ‘know it all’. It is however earned by the display of your commitment to your work and yourself when you fall.

When you say ‘I don’t know, it doesn’t mean you don’t intend to learn or brush up. Or you won’t do something about it.

For anyone willing to gauge you too quickly based on what you know or can come up with on the spot alone, know that success is also attributed to things like:

  1. Your willingness to seek out information.
  2. Your desire and ability to add value.
  3. Your ability to be truthful and genuine.
  4. Your ability to keep your word or take accountability.
  5. Your ability to communicate clearly and honestly.
  6. Your ability to empathise with your colleagues.
  7. Your attention to detail, even that of your appearance at work.
  8. The mindfulness of your tone and mannerisms and how you conduct yourself.
  9. Your commitment to always be on or before time.
  10. Your desire to learn and stand for collective success.

Those are many things. Not, one thing alone that displays our capabilities and worth. So if you catch yourself fall on any one or two, don’t sell yourself short.
